HADDON HEIGHTS NEWS

News from in and around the Borough of Haddon Heights

Borough Council's Extraordinary Aid Appilcation Receives $325,000:  The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA) announced on July 31, 2007 the cities and towns who will be receiving FY07 extraordinary aid grants.  To receive Extraordinary Aid, a municipality submits an application to the Division of Local Government Services.  The HH Borough Council, led by Council President Trish Sheilds, submitted an application in the spring and worked with local state legislators and the NJDCA. Much too the hard work and leadership of the Borough Council, HaddonHeights will receive $325,000 in aid.  Only Gloucester City will receive more in Camden County.  The application details the municipality’s fiscal posture and includes information about the municipality’s efforts to contain costs and share services.  NJDCA’s Extraordinary Aid program is implemented through the Division of Local Government Services, which works with local governments throughout the state to ensure their fiscal integrity and to support their efforts to comply with state laws and regulations.

Typically, the NJDCA announces the recipients shortly after the State Budget is aproved.  However, this year, with only $14 million available, the announcement was delayed nearly a month.  Now that the State Budget is approved and HH Borough has been granted the aid, the Council can complete its review and adoption of the municipal budget later in August.  Borough residents can expect to see a reduction in their property taxes as a result of the Borough Council's leadership in pursuing this aid grant.

Here is the complete State-wide list of aid recipients:

Borough Council Extends Tax Payment Grace Period:  On Friday, July 27, 2007, The Haddon Heights Borough Council passed a resolution that extends the grace period due date of 3rd quarter taxes.  The payments are now due by August 31 and the Borough will accept partial payments throughout the month.  Also, The tax office has released an Informal Property Assessment Review Form.  Download it and return it to the HH Borough's tax office with all supporting documents for review.

4th of July Fireworks Issue:  In 2006, the 4th of July Committee and the Haddon Heights Fire Department presented to the Borough Council a recommendation to suspend holding the annual fireworks display due to extenuating and compelling safety and liability issues.  Researching the issue, the Borough Council had little choice but to act on the recommendation to protect the borough and its residents.  Click here to download the white paper that was submitted to the Borough Council that contains the compelling facts about the safety issues.
